Beauty hits & misses of 2016

Better late than never I suppose! I wanted to bring you my beauty must haves that I tried in 2016. Of course I couldn’t fit all of my beauty essentials in this blog so I’m giving you my favourites. I have featured a few beauty products that just didn’t do anything for me and I felt were a little blah! These product may work for you but I just didn’t personally love them. Some of these products have been gifted to me but I will mark them with a (*) but I wouldn’t have featured them if I didn’t adore these products.

My favourite products of 2016

Cetaphil Cleanser – This is my favourite beauty product. The only product I can’t live without. As you can see I have it in multiple sizes. I try other cleansers and I feel like I am cheating! You will find this cleanser in most pharmacies in the section near the E45 cream.

Simple Eye Makeup Remover* – Sticking with the cleanser theme I was sent this simple eye makeup remover during the year. When I first tried it I didn’t love it as I found it a little too oily. After multiple uses it grew on me and now I’m on my second bottle. It’s been the best eye makeup remover for taking off heavy duty makeup. This is also a new product to hit shops in 2016.

Guinot Pur Equilibre Mask I cried when I couldn’t find this mask one day. It is the most amazing face mask if you are prone to breakouts. I recommend for you to dab this clay mask on the area and sleep in it. You will wake up flawless I tell you! It’s expensive but worth every cent. Pick this product up in all beauty salon that stocks Guinot.

Declare Hydro Balance Mask* – This product was originally gifted to me and I am now on my 3rd bottle. I am obsessed. If you follow my snapchat (katekelly1) you know that I regularly discuss different face masks when I multimask and this has been the best hydrating face mask I have tried. I apply at night, sleeping in this mask and my face looks so fresh in the morning.

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask* – Grab your bags ladies and get to your nearest Body Shop counter as you are in for a treat. This mask is THE BEST charcoal mask I have ever tried. Better than Glamglow, yes my second favourite has now been replaced! If you are like me and have an oily t-zone with open pores then this is the mask for you. Apply once a week as it’s a strong mask but you will love it.

Waxperts Wonder Pads – I had been using these back in 2015 when I first heard of Waxperts and completely forgot about them. In the last year I have been suffering from breakouts on my back. Not being able to reach he area is a total pain so I use these Waxperts pads which contains salicylic acid. What’s this magic ingredient you ask? Salicylic acid causes skin cells to shed more readily which opens clogged pores & neutralises the bacteria within. The anti-inflammatory ingredient, rosemary, works with panthenol to moisturise, improve hydration, reduce inflammation, reduce itching and accelerate healing.

CND Vinylux – This topcoat is incredible, your nails will look like you have Shellac on them. I hate getting my nails done, it takes so long and I hate the feeling of taking off nail polish. It’s the only beauty treat I’m not into. However, chipped nails are a pet hate of mine. When I do paint my nails I need a really strong top coat to make the polish last longer.

Jo Browne Perfume* – This Irish owned company has become one of my favourites. Jo sent me 3 of her solid perfumes out to try in October just before my trip to NYC. These perfumes are perfect for travelling and are beautifully scented. I have 3 of the scents and I keep them in different bags for when I am on the go. They are made from beeswax and essential oils making them very unique.

Red Cherry Lashes from* – The lovely ladies in Blush makeup in Kilkenny sent me Red Cherry Lashes and now I can’t live without them. I used to wear eylure lashes all the time but now Red Cherry are my go to lashes. My favourite from the range are: #30 & #415.

Benefit Brows – I think 2016 was the year of the brow and benefit cosmetics did an amazing job at creating one of the best, if not the best brow collection. You may have noticed on my social media channel that I have recently started working for benefit cosmetics and I’m making my way through every brow product in the collection. My two faves are Gimme Brow for that everyday brow and KA-brow for a more serious brow.

Kylie Jenner Lip Kit by Kylie – Of course I bought into the hype of Kylie’s Lip Kits but you know what I love mine. I have three shades and they are perfect for creating a matte lip. I know a lot of other bloggers have compared to cheaper versions but I was happy with my decision to spend the money on Kylie’s Lip Kit.

Carli Bybel Eye Shadow Palette – I bought this online from America and I think it only cost me about €20. Carli Bybel is an American Makeup artist that I adore so of course I bought her palette. If you like golden tones then you will love this palette. The pigment is strong and long lasting.

My not so favourite products of 2016

This was a hard one as I rarely slate a product but some just are not as amazing as they say they are. I try not to do negative posts as just because I don’t like a product doesn’t mean you won’t either. However, I am giving constructive criticism to these and reason why I didn’t love them.

  • QUAI Dry Shampoo- I was devastated that I didn’t love this product. Before I went to America in October I researched so much about this brand. It isn’t cheap either. I always wear dry shampoo and when I first sprayed this product I was beyond disappointed. It stinks and the fragrance is highly scented so there is no getting away from the smell.
  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Makeup*- Another product I had wanted to love but it completely dried out my skin. The coverage was too light and just wore off my face. I love wearing foundations that are light but this just wasn’t for me.
  • Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation – Another foundation that I didn’t love. It just didn’t work for my skin, not enough coverage and my skin didn’t look as amazing as I thought it would.
  • Catrice Inside Eye Highlighter Pen – So I bought two of these pencils so it was a coincidence that it happened twice. This twist up pencil dried up after only a few uses then it broke on me. I like so many of the other products from Catrice but this highlighter just didn’t work for me.

I hope you found this post helpful and let me know if you love any of these products just as much as I do.

Stay Fabulous,

Love Kate x
